If you haven’t lived under a rock you’ll remember the mechanical advent calendar we created last year (…dramatic much?!), when we were still known as The Craft Hit The Fan. That was one of our best selling products, and the one we enjoyed designing the most. Well, that calendar is missing one feature many of you asked: where to put the chocolates!
This year we’re presenting our most intricate and fun product yet: a mechanical advent calendar with gears, screws, springs and latches, all working together to give you the ultimate mechanical advent calendar!
This fully reusable advent calendar tells a story through its windows, the unique story of a letter to the North Pole, and the magical manufacture and delivery of an exciting gift, and that’s why it’s styled as a factory. All this is dotted with a few more or less concealed customisable touches: the factory sign, the text on the letter, and the text on the last window (where Santa is supposed to deliver the gifts!).
Each of the 24 windows only opens when the “slider” (i.e. the letter, forklift, or gift-wrapped parcel) is moved to the corresponding day. This is achieved with a smart set of screws and gears that drive the slider along, and the slider itself disengaging the spring-loaded latch fixed to each window.
This took us a long time to design, but we really did love the process, the prototyping, the assembly, and we sure do love the end result (playing with the gears is particularly addictive!). Make this Christmas the occasion to buy something different, something unique, something Engineered for you.
